Pixie Dust Dash 2: Recap

On the evening of Saturday, September 13, Third Gate Games hosted the second-ever Pixie Dust Dash. This still new event is played in-person, yet also online. Unlike a typical MouseAdventure, players are allowed to use any electronics that they need to support their search for challenge answers. All answers are also entered online via a web app interface.

As the event began, eager teams of two gathered in the Picnic Area at the Disneyland Resort. After a brief speech about the evening’s game rules, teams tore open their envelopes at 8 p.m. sharp and started to solve the puzzles. As a more abbreviated puzzle hunt, Pixie Dust Dash teams receive a series of questions or statements that are then researched to know where to find the answer.

Solving challenges in the dark for 3 hours is a very different experience to having the Anaheim sun beating down on you for 6 hours. Not only that, but the parade is stepping off, Fantasmic is running, and fireworks are sparkling overhead. In other words, time management and game strategy really matter.

This event covered the area of Downtown Disney and all of Disneyland Park. Not only did teams need to answer questions, they also had to take team selfies at certain locations. Some teams were also able to take advantage of their good timing by using the same photo for showing the team on an attraction and posing with the monorail.
